Mission

Christopher Newport’s Center for Community Engagement inspires, educates, and mobilizes students, faculty, and staff to engage with and positively contribute to our community. We do this by establishing long-term, mutually beneficial and reciprocal relationships with community partners to promote positive social, economic, and civic community-driven change.

Vision

To institutionalize meaningful collaboration between Christopher Newport University students, faculty, and staff and its communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. 

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Center for Community Engagement is to foster partnerships between the university and community to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhance curriculum, teaching, and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good.
