STEM Mentoring Program

The STEM Mentoring Program is part of the Service Distinction Program at CNU. Sara Lenhart took over the program in 2014 and is the current director. CNU students mentor/tutor at Crittenden Middle School in Newport News. On Tuesdays, CNU students tutor Maths 6, 7, and 8. On Thursdays, CNU students tutor Algebra and Geometry. CNU students mentor on one or both days from approximately 3:15 to 4:30. To participate, you cannot have a TR class at 3 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. There are about 40 sessions over the school year.
We use the word mentor because CNU students serve as a role model and inspiration for these students in addition to tutoring in the STEM subjects. Dr. Lenhart works with CNU students and Crittenden Middle School administration to ensure the program is running smoothly. She also helps to find rides for students who do not have a car on campus. For more information, please get in touch with Dr. Lenhart at sara.lenhart@cnu.edu. You can also fill out this form if you are interested so Dr. Lenhart can add you to her mailing list.
