Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings & Provisions, Inc (HELP Inc) is a faith-based nonprofit in Hampton whose mission is to provide dignifying, empowering, and faith-based safety-net shelter, healthcare, and support to our community's most vulnerable people. We accomplish this mission by providing multiple levels of shelter for homeless individuals and families, day support services for access to basic human needs, dental care for low-income uninsured adults, 3D Dental Printing for low-cost access to dentures, night guards, and crowns, and food pantry services for households dealing with food insecurity. On average, HELP serves over 2,000 clients every year. HELP's Executive Director, Matthew Stearn, is a CNU Alum ('09).

In 2020, Hampton Roads Refugee Relief:

-Assisting 6 Refugees who have become naturalized citizens register to vote and vote in the 2020 election
-Assisted 25 families adapt to virtual schooling amidst the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic
-Installed Wi-Fi hotspots in 14 homes after helping them qualify for low price school internet for low-income families
-Assisted 30 families in completing the 2020 Census both hard copies and online.
-Received $3850 worth of donated items; particularly the donations of household cleaning & hygiene supplies *Calculated based on Goodwill donated goods value.
-Assisted 28 families helped apply for social security/TANAF/SNAP/WIC, and other social benefits.
Conducted 2020 Needs Assessment to 55 refugee families across Newport News.
368 Volunteer hours recorded and over 86 hours of group classroom activities.

The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue is a combination fire and rescue organization with more than 300 full-time personnel supplemented by a contingent of volunteers. Our Volunteers serve a crucial role in our combination department. Volunteers have the option to serve as a firefighter, EMT; or both. Hampton's volunteer department offers enhanced training and opportunities to its volunteers not necessarily offered by other departments, such as becoming part of a specialty team. Our community is rich with history and tradition which makes serving this community an experience not many can offer.

We welcome anyone 16 and older to apply , however please know that you must be 18 years of age to participate in interior fire attack. It also should be noted that a valid drivers license is required to volunteer.

The Achievement Foundation is a charitable and educational organization dedicated to providing services to community youth so as to help produce a better quality of life for all through education and training and to provide to young persons, academically oriented services such as tutoring, leadership training, career exposure and financial assistance for schools of higher learning in the forms of loans and grants. The mission of the Foundation is to provide education, training, and mentoring programs and other philanthropic services that enhances the quality of life for the community at large. The Foundation supports the Newport News Alumni Chapter’s two signature programs, Guide Right and Scholarship.

Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide not just physical, but mental and spiritual comfort for terminally ill patients. Our volunteers are crucial in this mission. Volunteers offer companionship and compassionate help. Some volunteers interact directly with clients/patients and families, while others prefer to work behind the scenes in an office setting. Here for the Girls, Inc. (H4TG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit improving the lives of young women affected by breast cancer (diagnosed under age 51). We offer social-emotional support through services that provide personal connections and a shared experience among our members. Our research-based support model focuses on the overall well-being of our members and delivers our services through a non-clinical, peer-based approach. The result is an inclusive community based on equity and cultural humility that cultivates a sense of belonging from diagnosis, through treatment, and beyond.

I AM Enough retreat is a 501 (3) c nonprofit organization that provides transitional assistance for women experiencing distress. We provide a platform for healing and transformation among women who are survivors of sexual, mental, and domestic abuse. We will serve as a pathway from instability to stability by equipping women to unleash their voice, own their values, and walk in their destiny. We are here to change how it looks for women to receive assistance immediately.
Our Mission is to provide education, workshops, shelters, and other resources to victims and survivors of physical, mental, and sexual abuse.

Lackey Clinic is a faith base free medical clinic, founded in 1995. The Clinic provides primary and specialty medical care, dental care, virtual urgent care, better vision eye care, free and low-cost medications, behavioral health counseling, telehealth services, and spiritual care for low-income, uninsured adults in the Virginia Peninsula. Our service area includes Newport News, Williamsburg/James City County, York County, and Poquoson.

Literacy for Life, formerly known as the Rita Welsh Adult Literacy Program, builds better lives by teaching adults the literacy skills required for self-sufficiency, better health, and meaningful participation in society. Literacy for Life provides one-to-one tutoring in basic reading, math, GED preparation, and English as a Second language to adults in the Greater Williamsburg area.

TFAC is a fine arts center on Christopher Newport University's campus focused primarily on serving the CNU and Hampton Roads community. Comprising four main galleries, various studio classrooms, and a 150-seat auditorium, the center provides an admission-free space for students and community members to explore artworks and exhibits from around the world. TFAC aims to be a space where all individuals feel seen and welcomed, primarily through the medium of art.

Mercy Chefs is a faith-based, non-profit disaster and humanitarian relief organization. We exist to provide professionally prepared, restaurant-quality meals to victims, volunteers, and first responders in natural disasters and national emergencies, and we partner with existing like-minded organizations to further their mission by providing food service in underserved communities across the country.

Volunteers must have long hair pulled back into a ponytail and all volunteers should wear closed toe shoes. Please know that all first time volunteers will receive a t-shirt when they serve with us.

Mikey's Camp is a yearly, weekend-long grief camp for children ages 7 – seniors in high school at the Jamestown 4-H Educational Center. Children remain on site from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon and are paired with an adult “Big Buddy” volunteer that is their “person” for the weekend and will help guide them through the healing circles and activities. Big Buddies arrive at 2:30 pm Friday and depart at 2:30 pm Sunday. The weekend consists of four healing circles that focus on telling our stories, emotions, coping skills, and memorializing those we’ve lost. We also have lots of fun things including a pizza party, a costume party, a bonfire, archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, a Mad Science booth, a petting zoo, and more!

Kidz’NGrief provides grief support to children ages 3 – seniors in high school and their families. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows children to work through their grief with art, games, stories, play, and other activities with other kids. Children are placed in different age groups and adults bringing children can also attend one of our adult groups- loss of a spouse, loss of a child, and our other/ general loss group. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month during the school year at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church in Newport News. Groups are run by trained facilitators. Our program is free and open to any families grieving a death loss.

Nauticus is uniquely located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk, Virginia, offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.

The Newport News Department of Human Services mission is to contribute to the quality of life in Newport News by promoting empowerment and independence through human services and community partnerships.
