Course Description: This course explores interdisciplinary performance practices that engage community, history, and social justice. We will look at various artists, practices, and philosophies to analyze how performance can acknowledge, communicate, resist, protest, embrace, draw attention to, and offer new possibilities for relationality and community healing. We will focus on the history we have shared between Christopher Newport University and the Newport News community. Students will engage with CNU and the city’s history with displacing a community to expand our campus. We will look at this history and engage with community members directly affected by it if they are willing to engage with us.
