Christopher Newport’s Center for Community Engagement and Student Government Association are excited to announce the kick-off of CNU’s 16th Annual Food for Thought Campaign! The 2023 campaign will run from Thursday, October 19 through Thursday, November 9, culminating with a weigh-in during the Food for Thought finale on Thursday, November 9 from 11 am-2 pm in the Trible Plaza. Every year, our entire campus comes together to provide significant relief to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula through a combined campus contribution of non-perishable food and/or monetary donations. Special this year, CNU Engage is partnering with the City of Newport News to share the word about our Food for Thought Campaign and to invite our Newport News neighbors to participate in stocking the shelves of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Hampton Roads has seen up to a 28% increase in food insecurity due to the impacts of inflation, rising food costs, and greater demand, with a decrease of up to 50% in donations. Now more than ever our foodbanks are in need of additional support. One in 10 Virginians struggle with hunger across Hampton Roads.

Join us as we help support those in our local community. We are accepting canned and non-perishable items, as well as monetary donations. Your donation provides fresh produce, meat, and dairy which cannot be donated. No donation is too big or too small! For every dollar donated, we can provide three healthy meals to our community.
